The election of Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, as a representative of the African Football Confederation (CAF) on the FIFA Council reinforces the growing influence of Moroccan football globally. This appointment reaffirms that Morocco has become a football powerhouse both in Africa and worldwide.

At the Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Fouzi Lekjaa was overwhelmingly elected as the CAF representative on the FIFA Council. His presence in this key body brings a strong and committed voice to strategic decision-making for the future of the sport. His experience and leadership have been crucial for the advancement of Moroccan football, driving greater participation in international competitions and promoting the development of sports infrastructure.

The African Football Confederation (CAF), founded in 1957 and based in Cairo, Egypt, is the governing body of football in Africa. It oversees major tournaments such as the Africa Cup of Nations and the CAF Champions League. As president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation since 2014, Fouzi Lekjaa has played a fundamental role in the development of the sport in Morocco and on the African continent.

Lekjaa's influence solidified in 2021 when he became a member of the FIFA Council and subsequently assumed the position of Minister Delegate for Budget of Morocco. His term on the Council will extend until 2029, during which he is expected to contribute to improving organizational structures, strengthening the competitiveness of African teams, and attracting greater investments for the development of football in the region.

At the same Extraordinary General Assembly, Patrice Motsepe was re-elected as president of CAF until 2029. Fouzi Lekjaa, with 49 votes out of 52, prevailed over other prominent candidates from different African countries, reflecting his recognition and support in the football and political spheres of Morocco.
