In Marrakech, Morocco, the activities of the sixth edition of the Marrakech Poetry Festival began, organized by the Poetry House in Marrakech in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Shardji and the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication of Morocco. The festival lasts for three days and gathers more than 30 talented poets, writers, and artists from Morocco.
The official opening took place in the Moulai Abdelsalam Park in the very heart of Marrakech. Among those present at the event were the head of the Department of Culture of Shardji Abdallah ben Mohammedi al-Aouis, the director of the cultural affairs department in this department Mohammmed Ibrahim al-Kasir, as well as several Moroccan officials, writers, and esteemed figures in the field.
The Marrakech Poetry Festival runs parallel to the Marrakech Cultural Capital election in the Muslim world in 2024, considering the importance of the red heritage in cultural, historical, and traditional aspects. The event highlighted the significance of poetry and its creators in the context of the surroundings of the ruler, shining a spotlight on the heritage.
Abdallah ben Mohammedi al-Aouis, in his speech at the ceremony of the festival's opening, stated: "We are pleased to revive cultural interactions, proud of the civilizational achievements of this blessed country, seeing as a spectator of the cultural scene in Marrakech unmistakably highlights its multifaceted creative wealth."
The opening ceremony included the highlighting of literary figures from Morocco, such as Mahdi Akref, Ahmed Mahmoud Maalain, and Doctor Fatima Faiz, as a sign of recognition of their literary contribution over many years.
The Poetry House in Marrakech announced the names of the winners of the sixth session of the two awards: "Poetic Criticism" and "Best Poetic Work," within his interest in new poetic and literary forms, supporting young talents and giving attention to their creative legacy.
