A series of heavy rains and subsequent flash floods have caused a tragedy in the Moroccan province of Safi on the Atlantic coast. The floods were the direct result of intense thunderstorms that hit the province in a span of about an hour, causing rapid devastation. Damage to infrastructure and rescue efforts According to a preliminary report from the state news agency MAP, the rapid rise in water flooded dozens of homes and businesses. Specifically, about 70 houses and establishments in the city of Safi were affected, and the force of the torrents swept away 10 vehicles in its path. The flood also caused significant damage to transportation infrastructure, resulting in widespread traffic disruptions and road access issues throughout the province. Local authorities indicated that response efforts remain active. Rescue teams continue to search for missing persons and are working diligently to restore road access and essential public services in the affected areas.
