In a major operation coordinated by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), Morocco's security agencies dismantled a terrorist cell that was preparing to carry out explosive attacks in the Kingdom.

In the early hours of last Sunday, Morocco experienced another example of the effectiveness of its security agencies in the fight against terrorism. The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), in close collaboration with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), managed to dismantle a cell affiliated with the jihadist terrorist group Islamic State, ISIS or Daesh, which planned to carry out bombings.

Additionally, intelligence services discovered a video in which the suspects pledged allegiance to Daesh, clearly demonstrating their commitment to carrying out terrorist acts. The detainees are now in police custody, and authorities are working to clarify possible connections with other terrorist cells at the national and international levels. This is a jihadist terrorist group with a paramilitary structure that has proclaimed itself a caliphate. The Islamic State is also known as Daesh or Daish.

According to official sources, the operation culminated in the detention of four terrorists, aged between 26 and 35, including three brothers, in the Had Sualem region, Berrechid province, located about forty kilometers south of Casablanca. The jihadists' criminal plan, which was in an advanced stage of preparation, included terrorist attacks using homemade explosive devices.

The arrested individuals had acquired chemical materials from local pharmacies, such as fertilizers, sulfur, and powdered charcoal, along with welding equipment, electrical wires, and other tools necessary to manufacture explosives. Searches were carried out in two residences located in the Al Omrane and Al Amal housing developments, where agents discovered evidence that confirmed the severity of the threat.

Thus, Morocco consolidates itself as a reference in the fight against jihadist terrorism in North Africa and a key partner in regional security. The swift response and interinstitutional coordination have allowed for the deactivation of an imminent danger and sent a clear message to those attempting to destabilize the peace and security of the country.

The director of the BCIJ, Cherkaui Habub, highlighted the importance of this operational success, which is part of Morocco's sustained efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the country's stability. "The arrests and confiscated materials confirm the intent of the suspects to perpetrate violent acts before joining the ranks of Daesh in the Sahel region," said Habub.

The investigation revealed that two of the detained brothers had conducted reconnaissance visits to identify possible targets, documenting them with photographs and videos. During the operation, various sized bladed weapons, suspicious liquids, and additional materials that will be analyzed by forensic police experts were also seized.
