Moroccan Army Assists in Evacuation of Over 100,000 Due to Floods

The Moroccan army has been deployed to help evacuate over 100,000 people as exceptional rainfall causes severe flooding in the northwest. Helicopters are assisting in the rescue efforts.

The army has been deployed since Friday to assist in evacuation operations amid high warnings of more heavy rainfall. An official ministry spokesperson stated: «To ensure the safety of citizens, a gradual evacuation of residents from several communities was approved, which has resulted in the evacuation and transfer of a total of 108,423 people as of this morning». Helicopters have contributed to the rescue operations as water levels rose, flooding fields and villages across the northwest. The number of people evacuated from several northwestern regions of Morocco due to flood risks has exceeded 100,000 as of Wednesday morning, according to the Ministry of the Interior, amidst exceptional rainfall.
