Morocco Recognized as Victim of Injustice in AFCON Final

Samir Sabha, a member of the CAF Executive Committee, admitted that the Moroccan national team suffered a «gross injustice» during last month's Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat, where they lost 1-0 to Senegal after a controversial penalty. In an interview with the British newspaper «The Guardian», Sabha stated: «The rules were not respected as they should have been, and the title was taken away from Morocco». He added that the temporary withdrawal of Senegalese players from the field should have resulted in them being shown yellow cards, but he stressed that awarding the cup to Senegal «has already happened and cannot be changed». The CAF official confirmed that recognizing the injustice done to Morocco is a necessary step to move beyond disagreements and move forward.
