The Africa Cup of Nations has sparked excitement even among prisoners in Morocco. The country will host a mini-tournament involving 150 inmates from 15 African nations, an initiative launched by the General Directorate for Prison Administration and Reintegration. The tournament will take place tomorrow, Thursday, at the local prison in Tamsna near Rabat, in a celebratory atmosphere that reflects the values of sport and a shared African identity. According to the Moroccan News Agency, the Prison Service stated that the initiative is not limited to matches. It also includes screenings of the Africa Cup of Nations matches within correctional facilities, as well as analytical and interactive workshops with former players and sports journalists, and cultural activities involving relevant civil society organizations. Furthermore, prisons in Marrakech, Tangier, Fez, Casablanca, and Agadir will host matches in coordination with local clubs as part of a vision aimed at enhancing the human and social dimension of prisons and involving inmates in the national and continental dynamism. The Service confirmed that this initiative solidifies 'its firm commitment to involving inmates of correctional facilities in the national and continental dynamism, enabling them to engage positively in the various national and continental events and stages, which serves the goals of rehabilitation and reintegration and consolidates the openness of the prison institution to its external environment'.
